During a question and answer session following a leadership session I had just taught, a young woman stood up from the audience there in New Delhi, India. "How can I lead, if no one is assigned to follow me? I'm not a manager of people. How do I apply these principles?" Without giving it any thought I replied, "It starts with you. Lead yourself. Others will follow." So it began, my quest to learn how to lead myself and do it well.
